Bug Description

I realize this applet is designed to be used with maximus, but for those of us who are not, this option would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have all my window titles and controls removed from windows with gconf keys, and I really am inconvenienced by having to maximize windows to see their titles and so on.

Importance 'wishlist', but I can't set that.

I don't quite understand, non-maximised windows already have their decorations, is there something missing in window-picker-applet?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The screenshot you posted seems to show something that shouldn't be happening - unmaximized windows should not have their controls removed. This may be something entirely different, but first it would be very helpful if you could confirm whether it still happens using the current development release - karmic. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I did that with gconf keys to attempt to make my desktop more elegant. At
this point, I use Xmonad, so I still have no window controls, but I get
along with my keyboard. I don't know if I have window-picker-applet
installed, but since it's not designed for my use cases, I don't think I'll
put a lot of time into hunting its bugs.

This is was a feature request of mine that, given the objectives of your
project, is probably safe for you to ignore.

I will second this feature request.

My use case is:
 * A netbook with a 1024×600 screen.
 * GNOME panel on top, 24px high.
 * Remote desktop connection to another machine.

Since screen estate is at a premium, I start the connection with:

rdesktop -Dg 1024x576+0+24 server.ip

(-D to remove window decorations, -g to set window geometry). In this setup, the rdesktop window is not considered maximized and does not get a window-picker-applet title; but, because of -D, it does not have a title of its own. At the same time, it is highly desirable to see the window title text because it contains the name of the server connected to.

Also, maybe the decision whether to show the title or not should depend not on “is maximized” but on “has no decorations”. The maximus project has the relevant function, wnck_window_is_decorated.

I'd also like an option to display titles for the focussed but not maximised or focussed and undecorated window so that it can be used with xmonad. Thanks!

Likewise; as I type this window-picker-applet is refusing to show titles for:
1) pidgin's buddy list,
2) GNU Emacs 23,
3) calibre's Ebook Viewer.

xmonad is showing all of these full screen, so I don't quite see why they aren't showing a title in the window picker; emacs is especially surprising in this regard.
