ARP problem on wicd/wireless (but not wicd/LAN)

Bug Description
After upgrading my laptops to Karmic w/ the latest wicd, I ran into the following problem:
Whenever I use wicd to connect the laptops to WLAN, I will *not* be able to ping, connect, etc. the laptops from each other. Checking the ARP entries shows incomplete entries, i.e. no MAC address will be communicated. Setting these manually won't do it, the connecting attempt will just time out.
Otherwise, anything works fine, i.e. connecting to the outside world works, also connecting stationary machines being wired to the LAN.
The problem does not appear when using wicd to connect the laptops using wired connection instead of WLAN.
For the moment I'm using knetworkmanager which really hurts, but doesn't show the above problem...

Same here under gentoo, using 1.7.1_beta2-r2. I believe that this has to be related with some power saving issues, as it works if the interface is in use all the time, but stops working after a while. If i disconnect and reconnect to the wireless network, ARPs are resolved properly again..
It is not driver related, as I have a second laptop using a different wlan chip which runs wicd as well, and it shows exactly the same behavior.
