Bug Description

Trusty whois does not know about .xyz and .work TLDs. I tested on a jessie computer and the resolution succeeded. I am not sure if going with my suggestion in bug 1653341 would solve this issue (nothing in that file about xyz, in particular).

$ whois asldkfjas.xyz
No whois server is known for this kind of object.

$ whois asdfhuhiuah.work
No whois server is known for this kind of object.

$ whois alsdkfajsd.loan
No whois server is known for this kind of object.

I can verify that the latest upstream 5.2.14 is no longer affected by these problems.

I've made the package available for trusty and later via my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~r0lf/+archive/ubuntu/stable

Trusty is now in Extended Security Maintenance [1], and this bug doesn't qualify for it, so it won't be fixed in that release.

I verified that this specific issue doesn't happen in >= Xenial, so I think it's safe not to add new tasks to this bug, however the more general issue brought up in LP: #1653341 is still worth considering.
