Bug Description

Binary package hint: wget

I've been trying to wget a file in a bash terminal, whilst behind a proxy. That proxy is set via the gui in system > preferences as a 'http proxy', 'use for all protocols' & 'apply system wide'.

I have tried setting the http_proxy environment variable, using the --proxy=on setting, adding similar options to ~/.wgetrc and copying /etc/wgetrc etc. etc.

None of this works.

However, if I ssh to localhost and then try it, it works, first time, every time, no messing.

What setting is telling wget not to use a proxy? Why does everything work fine for apt, synaptic, etc. etc. but not wget on the command line. Why does wget work when i ssh!

Have the same problem here after upgrading to 10.04

Solution for me is to unset no_proxy variables, no_proxy was set to "localhost,127.0.0.0/8,*.local,irc.xxxxx.de,"

And sometimes i have to change https_proxy because its set to an https://proxy url and not to an http:// url which i used in the gnome proxy settings

Also all_proxy is set to a wired socks proxy which i had never setup
