Apps using libwebkit2gtk become unresponsive since update to 2.16.*

I am using Ubuntu 16.10.

My webkit2gtk version 2.16.1-0ubuntu0.16.10.1

Since update of webkit2gtk packages to version 2.16.1 Geary application started to become unresponsive for me. Detailed description of my problem is here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781619

It seems that there is a bug in 2.16.* webkit2gtk https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=169819 that will be fixed only in 2.16.2.

This is blocking the 0.12 release of Geary, since the new version depends on webkit2gtk and this bug makes it completely unusable. I'm not sure when 2.16.2 is due out, but it would be great if the patch from the webkit bug could be applied to the package in the meantime.

2.16.2 is out now https://lists.webkit.org/pipermail/webkit-gtk/2017-May/003031.html and already in proposed for artful. It apparently contains a fix for this, but I haven't been able to verify it.

Because this is claimed to be fixed in 2.16.2 and I already uploaded the 2.16.2 updates to the SRU queues, I'm going to go ahead and mark this a duplicate of the 2.16.2 update bug 1690536.

Please help me understand how you were affected by this bug.

webkit2gtk provides libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 but Ubuntu's geary uses libwebkit2gtk-3.0-0 (from the webkitgtk source, notice the lack of a "2" in the source name).

Hi Jeremy,

I am using version of Geary compiled from master branch.

Geary (master version) works stable since update to 2.16.2. I am currently running on libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 (= 2.16.3-0ubuntu0.17.04.1).
