Bug Description

Now that unity system compositor will be installed by default soon. Wayland should come with a Mir backend so desktop environments that use Wayland can run under USC.
This should be very similar to XMir. Maybe code can even be shared?

Btw: I would be willing to work on this. But I have little knowledge in that area so I would need support from others...

Wayland is just a protocol, so it doesn't have "backends" of its own.

Actually, desktop environments that support Wayland clients use "native" backends. That means they implement their own logic to interface with the kernel and the hardware. So you would be asking for a mir client that emulates that kernel DRM/KMS layer. I don't think anyone is ever going to do that.

From another perspective though, good news! Mir 0.28.0 introduces support for Wayland apps.
