Bug Description
After upgrading libvte to latest release, When installing deb with gdebi, it shows following error:
unable to read filedescriptor flags for <package status and progress file descriptor.
Running gnome-terminal also gives "could not found /etc/profile.
Downgrading to 0.50.2 fixes the issue.

I don't know where your /etc/profile. d/vte.sh issue is coming from.
vte2.91 instead ships /etc/profile. d/vte-2. 91.sh
I do see that budgie- desktop- common ships /etc/profile. d/vte.sh . Did you have that package installed?
