vmbuilder crashed with NameError in deploy()

This is auto-generated duplicate of a bug I raised awhile ago (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-vm-builder/+bug/341596).

I tried to reproduce the problem following an update to the vm-builder package and apport helpfully offered to create this bug report.
