Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-plugin-vlc

When you try view something that plays through the VLC plugin, it crashes with the following error:
/opt/google/chrome/chrome --type=plugin --plugin-path=/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libvlcplugin.so --lang=en-US --channel=3040.0xe373420.1825996355: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libvlcplugin.so: undefined symbol: NPP_Initialize

This problem has been patched over in gentoo, it seems. I don't know if this patch has trickled upstream yet, but it has definitely not trickled downstream to Ubuntu. This is a showstopped of a crash since it makes VLC unusable in firefox 4, chrome, and chromium.

The patch is there on the gentoo bug tracker page:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361263

I am using Kubuntu 11.04 and KDE 4.6.4 and VLC 1.1.9

The version of mozilla-plugin-vlc is 1.1.9-1ubuntu1.1

Also, discussion of the bug can be found on the VLC forums here:
