glibc detected a heap corruption. From the stack trace, I am almost certain that the assertion failure is not where the problem is. Unfortunately, several threads are active at the time of the crash. They seem to contend for the dlopen() internal lock. The main suspect would be libproxy or the KDE module for libproxy.

We would need the valgrind trace while reproducing the bug:

# valgrind vlc

Valgrind caused my computer to choke hard. I managed to save the attached log. Does this help? I'm not sure I can easily repeat the original crash. Most of the time VLC works just fine.

That does not help at all as the error was apprently not reproduced while running valgrind. There is absolutely nothing I can do without this.
