        - Remove libarts1-dev from build depends
        - Don't build package vlc-plugin-arts
        - Remove all notions of vlc-plugin-arts from packages descriptions
      - debian/rules:
        - Remove --enable-arts from confflags
      - Delete debian/vlc-plugin-arts.install
      - Delete debian/vlc-plugin-arts.links

I've build Ahmed's package in my PPA [1]. I was hoping it would resolve LP #342332 [2] (not relevant for this bug, but unfortunately it didn't). For those who are interested, the buildlogs of the build can be found here: amd64 [3], lpia [4], i386 [5].

For those willing to test the package Ahmed provided, please follow instructions on how to enable my PPA [6].

In my experience, the best practice for VLC is to track its upstream releases. I have tried out petski's PPA builds through my media library and can note no regressions on my end. With that said, I will sponsor it for upload.

I uploaded Ahmed's debdiff into Jaunty with two slight changes:

(1) Preserved the MOTU maintainer field from the previous Jaunty. whenever we make changes to packages, we'd like the maintainer to point to the Ubuntu developers, not Debian developers.

(2) Added a LP: #356310 reference to this bug ticket in the changelog entry.

Strange to see that video is outside main window in official 0.9.9a version, but it wasn't in ppa version.
