UPDATE: The problem will probably NOT be solved until a stable 1.0 is released.
"The problem is solved upstream with *extensive* changes in the 1.0 branch, now past first Release Candidate. We (the VideoLAN project) will _not_ backport the fix to the 0.9 series."

SOLUTION (temporary): There is a package that contains a temporary patch which re-enables the integrated video interface, install vlc from this PPA: http://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+archive/ppa
DOWNSIDE: Note that by using this patch, vlc probably might crash, that's normal and that's why this patch is not proposed as a fix for jaunty.
