Bug Description

wxvlc can't play files loaded from gui

the newest VLC package as of Oct. 11 (0.8.4-svn20050920-3+hal0ubuntu1) is unable to play video's (tried with dvd's, xvid-avi, mp3's)

terminal reports:for a xvid-avi file (****=folder)
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 0.1.9 from http://dvd.sf.net
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.9 for DVD access
libdvdread: Can't stat 8Y￿E8Y￿Eda5/*****/tarzan.avi
Onbekend bestand of map
libdvdnav: vm: faild to open/read the DVD
[00000284] main input error: no suitable access module for `8Y￿E8Y￿Eda5/*****/tarzan.avi'
[00000260] main playlist: nothing to play

When I look in the playlist there is an entrance but without a name, description, anything.

update:
Used the commandline: vlc (xvid)file.avi
watch the terminal output again...and :

VLC media player 0.8.4-svn20040920 Janus
[00000281] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000260] main playlist: nothing to play
[00000260] main playlist: stopping playback
[00000281] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000260] main playlist: nothing to play
[00000260] main playlist: stopping playback

looks like it doesn't support Xvid or anything else...

---
xvid support is not compiled in ffmpeg. This is not a vlc issue.

The playlist->open function is broken; I'm working to fix this. In the meantime, use the command line:

$ vlc somefile
