Bug Description
I have played a file with VLC and that went just fine.
However, when I clicked on the X to exit the GUI of VLC I could still see the icon for VLC in the MATE panel and if I then try to play another file the GUI doesn't appear again until I run vlc from a terminal.

Hello,
did you solve the problem?
I have the same behavior when I play files from a samba network share (smb 3.0). Local disk playback works without problems for me.
greetings
