Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-vlc

Oubuntu 7.10, nvidia prop driver, nVidia 7300GS card, AMD64, VLC Player 0.8.6c.

When I watch a dvd disc from the dvd drive the screen goes blank after precisely 10 minutes from the last mouse click. It returns with movement of the mouse. The audio continues throughout. 'Suspend Screensaver' is set in VLC although I do not think the problem is within the setable screensaver controls. I have tried different time settings in the screensaver and different visuals. Every time I get the blank screen at precisely 10 minutes (even with screensaver time set to 1 minute).

I have set appearance 'Visual Effects' in Compiz to none and extra. Both settings have the same result, i.e. the screen goes blank after 10 minutes.

The graphics card and driver work well otherwise (although currently exploring Blender that appears to open larger than the screen with some menus off screen to both sides) and I can get full Compiz effects.

OpenOffice, BBC News steaming with totem and gstreamer, Firefox, Stellarium, Gimp all work with this card.

The same rig ran dvds perfectly using Fiesty.

I have logged this to gnome-vlc because the bug logging system would not let me choose 'I don't know'. Please re allocate it for me.

vlc player can't control power-managment setting. if you wan't to use vlc player you need to set it up in System > Settings > Powemanager ( or some thing like this , i don't use english version )

I no longer have this bug and vlc player version has not been changed. I don't know what fixed the problem.
