Bug Description

Ubuntu version 14.04.3 LTS
vlc version 2.1.6-0ubuntu14.04.1

The vlc ncurses interface causes memory corruption when viewing a picture without $DISPLAY

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a xterm-compatible terminal emulator
2. unset the DISPLAY environment variable but leave TERM intact
3. run vlc with "vlc -I ncurses" (ncurses interface only, other ones don't work)
4. Save a dummy picture (screenshot?)
5. open the picture

Memory corruption is caused if gnome-terminal is used as the terminal emulator.

Is this still an issue with 2.2.8? If yes, please attach the output of vlc running under valgrind so that we can locate the source of the memory corruption.
