Bug Description

Hi all,

I appreciate your input for getting a workaround or even a fix for the below issue. This looks like bug #653616 but happened quite recently (i.e. within the last 24h and on an system update) on Lucid Lynx. So, I did not want reopen the previous bug again since it had already been marked as expired.

Steps to reproduce:

0. Running Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS), updated recently:
uname -a -->
Linux 2.6.32-61-generic #124-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 4 23:03:14 UTC 2014 i686 GNU/Linu

1. open VLC, menu is usable, audio controls react to mouse and then one of the following steps:
2a. start a DVB-T streaming ==> no video, no audio, menu is not active any more and GUI does not react to mouse
2b. start a DVD replay ==> Video, no audio, audio controls not active, GUI freezes
2c. start the replay of a previous VLC recording dump ==> no video, no audio, GUI freezes

When starting VLC from a console I get the following output upon the GUI freezing:

[0x8f97444] main playlist: stopping playback
libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 12, expected 0) for PID 18
libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 1, expected 0) for PID 0
libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 4, expected 0) for PID 500
libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 4, expected 0) for PID 400
libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 4, expected 0) for PID 1100
libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS discontinuity (received 4, expected 0) for PID 600
^C[0x8f9a27c] signals interface error: Caught Interrupt signal, exiting...

3. VLC has to be "Force quit" or killed via xterm

Since I regularly use my box as a TV I am sure that VLC was fine less than 1 day ago:

2014-06-04 ca. 21:00 CET: system update
2014-06-04 21:00 CET - 2014-06-06 03:00 CET ==> all fine with VLC, can play own recordings and DVB-T
2014-06-06 11:40 CET: system update with reboot, comprising packages:
    linux-image-2.6.32-61-generic
    linux-headers-2.6.32-61
    linux-image-generic 2.6.32.61.68
    linux-headers-generic 2.6.32.61.68
    libssl0.9.8
    libc-bin 2.11.1
    linux-libc-dev 2.6.32-61.124

2014-06-06 13:30 CET: first use of VLC ==> broken, freezes, does not replay

So my hunch is that today's update has something to do with my VLC issue.
So please let me know your suggestions or further questions (regarding dumps, logs etc.)

Best regards,
mju

Better place that under VLC application than the package

The place to report VLC bugs is the VLC Trac, not Launchpad. kthxbye.

I experienced similar problem after updating to 2.6.32-61.124 two days ago. After this update I was not able to play any multimedia content (video in Firefox or in Totem, audio files). Applications froze and I had to kill them. After downgrading back to 2.6.32-60 everything worked again.
