On my computer the bug does not occur anymore after deinstalling VirtualBox in Software Center, and installing via Terminal:

--
wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
--
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian precise contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list'
--
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install virtualbox-4.2
--

hope this helps!

Installed 12.04.2 yesterday. This is the only release that i want to run on my laptop because of hardware support. It is more stable and faster than 12.10 but how can they release it with this type of bugs???

Tried to install via terminal with sudo apt-get install virtualbox and it fails to build the module. Also if i try to install linux-headers-generic it tries to revert back to 3.2 kernel headers.

What is going on people? This is an LTS version!

Downloaded the deb package from virtualbox site for version 4.2 and installed from terminal. It compiles the modules ok with no errors.

I was able to resolve with Daniel Haas's help. I performed this in terminal:
$ sudo apt-get remove virtualbox
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get autoremove
$ wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc
$ sudo apt-key add oracle_vbox.asc
$ sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian precise contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list'
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install virtualbox-4.2
$ sudo usermod -a -G vboxusers MYUSERNAME # resolve USB issue

May i just say that 12.04.2 is completely broken. On a fresh install if you try to install ia32-libs it will remove half of your packages. If you try to install linux-headers-generic, it tries to downgrade the kernel to 3.2... what a mess!
