Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

In 8.04 I tried to install virtualbox-ose through Synaptic. It installed fine and brought along two other small libraries.

I ran virtualbox-ose successfully through "Applications > System Tools > Virtualbox OSE" until I tried to actually run a guest.

I made a new guest using 256MB or RAM, a new 8GB expandable hard disk using the Warty image (warty-release-install-i386.iso) for a CD-ROM.

As soon as I booted it up, I received this message:

Failed to start the virtual machine Ubuntu 4.10.

VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel, e.g. virtualbox-ose-modules-generic..
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}

However, as soon as I installed 'virtualbox-ose-guest-modules-generic' and 'virtualbox-ose-modules-generic' through Synaptic, the guest booted up.

Should installing virtualbox-ose not rely on installing some kernel modules as well, dependant on what the server has?
