I can see the same problem here. Could it be considered as a blocker for gutsy final release ?

I have documented the kernel module building process on the wiki page, and it's super simple from the command line: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox

This could and should be automated with the install like X configuration or Postfix configuration. At the very least the process documentation should be included with the package. I'm sorry but I'm just now learning the packaging process or I'd create the patch myself. If someone would like to mentor me on this, I'd be happy.

The module is not automatically compiled however, the infrastructure exists for the compilation. The manual process is undocumented.

There's a package for the module (virtualbox-ose-modules), however it's not been updated yet for the latest kernel (this is bug 151379).

However, installing virtualbox-ose currently does not trigger installation of the module package.
Maybe virtualbox-ose needs to depend on the package (or recommend it)?

It already does Recommend: virtualbox-ose-modules, so once it has been updated the the new kernel, everything should just work.

Had the same problem on Hardy. After installing virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-16-generic everything works great.

Max, please install virtualbox-ose-modules-generic instead. It's a meta package, which will take care of upgrades and automatically install the most recent "real" package.
