After installing Ubuntu version 18.04, I tried to install virtualbox, virtualbox-dkms, virtualbox-ext-pack and virtualbox-guest-additions-iso using Synaptic. All were successful except virtualbox-ext-pack. I then copied a VM previously used under Ubuntu 16.04 and ran it. It complained about the lack 0f the ect-pack, so I returned to Synaptic and this time it appeared to intall. Subsequently, the VM ran OK and still appears to do so.
