Bug Description

Binary package hint: vino

1)
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04

2)
$ apt-cache policy vino
vino:
  Installed: 2.28.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.28.2-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.2-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I deselected "Allow other users to view your desktop" and just wanted to turn vino off.

4) Instead, it shut down and killed also gnome-panel (I checked with $ ps ax|grep gnome-panel)

Please let me know if you need more data on that. I'm aware this report may be far from complete.

I'm having problem fetching package vino with debug symbols along the steps from the wiki Sebastien has provided,

Err http://ddebs.ubuntu.com lucid-security/main Packages
  404 Not Found

Therefore the backtrace is useless. What's more, I'm having problems with tracing the problem - vino doesn't crash when it kills gnome-panel, and when I attached gdb to gnome-panel, it said that program exited normally. This seems to be a tough bug for a novice debugger. If there's a need, I can share my desktop with a trusted developer to see into the problem (and no, I don't do that usually ;) but this is way to hard to trace for me).

Important notice: before deselecting "Allow users to view your desktop" the lower box "Allow other users to control ..." has to be selected. If not, deselecting the first checkbox doesn't cause gnome-panel to terminate.

I'm also encountering this. Sebastien could you simply open up vino-preferences & tick "allow others to..." on and off and confirm that yes, it does infact happen for you?

Following the page you give me, stall in the same place...
