I am also not seeing other that ssh option!
It used to work fine before!!
I think I might have used the "Computer Janitor" which deleted some packages!

I am using ubuntu 11.04 32bit

I have *not* used the "Computer Janitor".

I am using ubuntu 11.04 64bit

So , If "Computer Janitor" is not the reason for this problem, could it be because of my failed attempt to install Gnome3!!

I have another machine that is still working, I compared it's setup and files and they seem to match!!

I am currently using "Remmina Remote Desktop Client" which has more features than Vinagre like controlling color depth and quality , whoever it would be nice to know why suddenly the VNC plugin stop working with Vinagre!

I found an identical bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vinagre/+bug/809281

Which confirms my suspicion that installing and removing Gnome3 was the reason for this problem!!

I also found this problem after installing and removing Gnome3.

run vinagre from terminal

[west@lp]$LANG=C vinagre

The warning message say: the file libgvnc-1.0.so.0 can not be found.

This issue can be fixed by reinstalling the package "libgtk-vnc-1.0-0".

i got same problem. before installing gnome3 and after removing it.
reinstalling libgtk-vnc-1.0-0 did not help

starting vinagre from terminal gives

** (vinagre:2416): WARNING **: The protocol vnc is not supported.
