Bug Description

Binary package hint: vim

VAIO VGN-FS215E
CPU intel celeron M370 1.50 GHz
Graphics Intel 915GM with up to 128 MB
RAM 2x256 MB
WLAN 802.11 b/g
SCREEN 15.4 WXGA X-black LCD
Optical Double layer DVD+-RW
French keyboard

Fresh install of Edgy.

whether I use vi file or sudo vi file I can write correctly as long as I don't touch the 4 arrow keys.

If I hit the arrow keys (e.g. to change line/character where I want to put the cursor, as I did in Dapper) it produces now capital letters as follows:

left arrow prints D (on a new line)
right arrow prints C (on a new line)
upper arrow prints A (on a new line)
down arrow prints B (on a new line)

To be able to move the cursor, I need to ESC first.

In pure console mode (ctrl alt f1) it doesn't print A B C D but still doesn't work as in Dapper.

In both cases (gnome-terminal or console mode), clicking on i to initiate the edit mode doesn't give any indication at the bottom of the screen ( -- INSERT -- )
