Show the desktop file in the app menu by default

Bug Description

I installed gvim with the "add/remove Applications" (it is the 2nd package I install after installing a fresh new Ubuntu)

It says it should be added to the "application/Accesories" menu but it isn't.
When I do "gvim" in a terminal I get:

** ERROR **: Resource problem creating '/home/bde/tmp/orbit-bdm'
aborting...
Vim: Caught deadly signal ABRT
Vim: Finished.
Aborted

At the end of installation you get a "New Applications" window
Strangely enough, there I can launch gvim.

ubiquity is the live CD installer, not add/remove applications or any other general-purpose repository for package installation problems. I guess this belongs to either gnome-app-install or vim.

gvim not running from the terminal is not an issue here (it actually works fine with me) but rather gvim not getting reflected in Applications -> Accessories when you have been told so. The shortcut is disabled and had to use Alacarte to turn it on and have it reflected in the right place.

Changed in gnome-app-install:
status: Unconfirmed → Confirmed
importance: Untriaged → Medium

It looks like gvim.desktop is hidden by default in Ubuntu.

vim (1:7.1-138+1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes:
    + debian/gvim.desktop:
      - Add NoDisplay=true
