Bug Description

I have Kubuntu 8.10 beta with last updates. Version of package vim-gtk is 7.1.314-3ubuntu3. Gvim does not show its GUI after starting. Instead of it freeze and must be killed via kill command. Only main grey main window without any menus, bars is shown.

I see a similar thing on up-to-date Kubuntu 8.10 as of today, just that gvim just hangs and doesn't get any window up at all.

I've attached the output of strace gvim 2> gvim_start_strace.txt, which seems to block on a read() call.

gvim (gtk) starts fine if you run it with a different user from that you logged-in with.

Have a look over there. A simple workaround has been mentioned in the comments!

Martin,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

We would like to close this bug report as it refers to very old versions of Ubuntu and vim but before we do we are asking if you still see a problem related to that which you reported?

If we do not hear from you the bug report will close itself in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
