the log shows that only 'vim-tiny' is installed (and that's what Ubuntu installs by default), the 'vim.tiny' command should work? It's a bit misleading that gnome-software shows 'vim' as installed though

Hi, Sebastien Bache

It should work, but it does not work.

At the moment the Ubuntu Software screen is locked and I can not show it installed in the application central.

But to see through synaptcis by the attachment below

It also follows image of Ubuntu software caught.

What doesn't work? What happen if you type 'vim.tiny' on a command line?

Vim appears installed, but clicking Exit by store or executing the command does not open it.
See the attachments, please.

the command is "vim.tiny" not "vim-tiny", but yeah it's confusing that it matches "vim" in the graphical software

Hi,

I executed what you asked me to be vim.tiny and it appeared only the image below:
In synaptcis, in Ubuntu Software nothing appears.

When entering F1 the following information appeared:

help.txt* For Vim version 7.4. Last change: 2016 Sep 07

VIM - fake help file for vim-tiny

The Vim online help is not installed on this Debian GNU/Linux system.

WHY ?

Because only the "vim-tiny" package is installed, whose sole purpose is to
provide the vi command for base installations. As such, it contains a minimal
version of Vim compiled with no graphical user interface and a small subset of
features, in order to keep the package size small.

Since the "vim-runtime" package is rather huge when compared to "vim-tiny",
installing the latter does not automatically install the former.

HOW TO GET A BETTER VIM

To get a more featureful Vim binary (and a vim command, rather than just vi),
install one of the following packages: vim, vim-nox, vim-athena, vim-gtk, or

Sebastien's information is correct (Thanks!) Command 'vim.tiny' works. Also 'vi'.

I think the confusion is the user expects a graphical application. Vim-tiny, the default installation in Ubuntu, is a console (Terminal) application. To get the graphical version, install gVim in Ubuntu Software.

What lead you to use the command 'vim'? Was it listed in software-center? Was it something you read online? Thanks in advance.
