gvimrc columns not respected (Metacity stretching window)

Bug #177244 reported by Tres Seaver

Bug Description

Binary package hint: vim-gtk

In my .gvimrc, I set the desired number of colums for my gvim:

  set co=80

but when I start gvim, something (the window manager?) resizes the window
after .gvimrc is sourced. I can verify this via:

  :verbose set co?

which shows:

    columns=98
             Last set from ~/.gvimrc

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

This bug is not present in my Jaunty desktop, which *is* running metacity (rather than compiz).
