Bug Description

Call this a feature request.

I found that when I use the output of "sfdisk --dump" from one disk to format another one that is smaller, sfdisk does not complain. Of course, using those partitions caused problems because they went off the end of the new disk. The error can be big or small -- manufacturers vary in the exact sizes of disks over 80 GB or so, and a user may not notice this condition is arising.

Sfdisk says it's intended for scripting. Since testing for this is tricky in scripts, I'd really like sfdisk to check for it. Just notice if a partition being created extends off the end of the actual volume being formatted. And do something about it to let the calling script know.
