vivid:
$ rename.ul -V
rename.ul from util-linux 2.25.2
$ touch a0 b0
$ rename.ul -v 0 1 a0
`a0' -> `a1'
$ rename.ul -v ./b0 ./b1 ./b0
`./b0' -> `./b1'
wily:
$ rename.ul -V
rename.ul from util-linux 2.26.2
$ touch a0 b0
$ rename.ul -v 0 1 a0
`a0' -> `a1'
$ rename.ul -v ./b0 ./b1 ./b0
(nothing happens)
i interpret that as a regression.

in words, rename.ul apparently no longer works unless you cd to the containing directory and omit the dirname portion from the arguments
