Bug Description

Hello,

I am using Kubuntu 6.10 live CD. The cd was verified using the md5sums file, the iso was verified too, before burning.

The desktop starts up fine, the GUI is great, but the problem is the virutal terminals - the ones which are accessed by ctrl-alt-fn. All the vt's from F1 onwards to F6 just display garble. They just show green and yellow wildly scrolling blocks and lines.

I have not installed kubuntu to the hard disk yet, fearing that the same problem would occur once installed. Should I try installing kubuntu to the hard drive ? Is there any other way in which I can provide more information for bug diagnosis ? Thank you very much.

My ubuntu hardware database submission id is:

This is probably a duplicate of Bug #63558.

You will see this behavior if you install onto your hard drive, the bug is not limited to the live CD.

Any known solutions ?

Bug #63558 does seem familiar, but most of the users there are ati users. I am on i810 user .. but the symptoms are almost the same.
