Bug Description

Binary package hint: usplash

I am using Kubuntu Karmic 64-bit with all updates. When I start my computer, I do not see a boot splash as my computer starts, I only see the services scrolling that are starting. I see the usplash during shutdown but not boot up.

This is no bug. Perhaps a wish.
Usplash has been disabled in default configuration.
You should see usplash (the new white logo) only when shutting down.

I don't think you read my bug description carefully. This is a bug. There is no splash screen at all whatsoever, usplash or otherwise. Just scrolling white text.

Jeremy, please be more specific.
You have been writing about usplash, and that has been disabled during normal boot.
Scrolling white text is what is expected, just because usplash is not there to hide it.

But more info is needed.
Do you see the xsplash and the xsplash background (from ubunt-xsplash-artwork) just before gdm's greeting window?

Harry, again please read my bug report more carefully. In my initial report, I mentioned that I am running Kubuntu Karmic 64-bit. That means that I do not have GDM, I have KDM.

Secondly, what happens is exactly as I've said, there is no usplash, xsplash, logo, animation, picture, graphic, or anything at any point between the starting of the computer to KDM. There is only text letting me know what services are being started.

Hi Jeremy,
Yes I have read it carefully.
But please note, that the description is not clear enough.
There are also two more issues in your report:
- the headline mentions only usplash
- affected application is set to usplash only.
I you correct these, you might get better help too.
One queastion though, do you see the logging window of the kdm?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kubuntu doesn't use XSplash, I thought XSplash was for Ubuntu only? That's what I read on the Ubuntu forums anyway. That's why I mentioned USplash, so I'm unsure if I should correct this bug to include XSplash if that's not something that will be in Kubuntu.

I don't know what you mean by the logging window of KDM. I see "starting KDM" just before KDM appears.

Hi Jeremy,
Yes with "login window" I meant the window and it fields where you put the username and password.
Or do you use autologin?

Yes, the login window appears.
