gdm/xorg does not start automatically after boot

Bug Description
On dapper beta amd64 after boot i get the terminal.
I had to log in ad run:
sudo gdm
to run gdm and use gnome.
The problem is related with usplash. I removed the usplash package and all works fine. I reinstalled usplash and the problem appairs again.
I found that some people have the same problem but the bug reports submitted refer to nvidia/ati driver problems.
I do not use any proprietary video drivers if i have a nvidia card.
