Bug Description

The issue is when the Dell Mini 10v with 1024x576 screen, boots up in karmic (as of July 14 09) the usplash boot screen comes up but does not show the little indicator peg moving horizontally under Ubuntu logo. Just a red bar.

I'm not sure though if it's
1) upslash not working properly at 1024x576 or
2) the KMS (Kernel Mode Settings) support for the 945GME (intel video card in the Dell Mini 10v) is the cause.

Kernel mode setttings sets the console to 1024x576 during boot on the Dell Mini 10v. I have tried other Intel video chips using Kernel Mode settings at 1440x900 and they do not have this issue.

Here is an example video. You normally see the little indicator in the red bar, even with other systems using kernel mode settings:

This is very likely the same issue which is reported under bug #401432 which indicates that usplash dumps core on cirtain displays, it appears to be related to screen resolution specifically.
