I have this problem too.

Jaunty Alpha 4 updated daily.
This happened after updates today (5th March 2009). There was a kernel update included in these updates.

usplash: no usable theme found for 1024x768

I've tried update-initramfs -u, didn't help.

All the symlinks to usplash-artwork.so are OK

cat /etc/usplash.conf
# Usplash configuration file
# These parameters will only apply after running update-initramfs.

xres=1280
yres=800

My LCD has native resolution of 1280x800, so why is usplash complaining about 1024x768?

I tried changing this to 1024x768, running update-initramfs again, but it still didn't work, even when I added vga=791 to the kernel command line.

I experience this problem as well, on two systems with fairly different setups.
It only started after yesterday's updates, and it is not kernel-related, as I use a vanilla 2.6.29-rc7.

Gosh, I'm terribly sorry, I did prepare an update and tested it, but apparently something went wrong during the upload.

I uploaded my package from last Wednesday again. It should have worked now.

Alessandro, I didn't use your debdiff, since this changes a lot of code which is unrelated to the usplash theme update, and wasn't documented in your changelog. If those changes are relevant, can you please open a separate bug about them and describe them?

Thanks, and sorry again for the hiccup.
