I can confirm that the current code on github fixes the udev issue for 18.04. The re-write also fixes an associated problem with mounting NTFS drives through usbmount.

Steven/James: The permissions issue you describe are not bugs and are explained in the documentation. You can set your preferred permissions in /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf.
