Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

I was creating a USB installation medium from a xubuntu iso image. The progress window got to 34% and then (by all outward appearances, anyway) stalled. Some inspection of the running process with strace revealed that it is reading through a file:

/media/7DCB-6E54/casper/filesystem.squashfs

which is a copy of /tmp/tmpux44kh/casper/filesystem.squashfs on the USB device. While this file was copying however the progress meter was making reasonable progress.

I suspect that what usb-creator is doing is verifying the copied file. What it is not doing however is accounting for that process in the progress dialog. Just like the progress dialog was providing updated progress during the copy, it should do so during this verification phase, otherwise the user suspects that the process is stalled and broken and terminates it.

Thank you for taking the time to make Xubuntu better. Since what you submitted is not really a bug, or a problem, but rather an idea to improve Xubuntu, I have marked it as wishlist. This lets the developers take a look at it, and if possible, implement this in the future.
