usb-creator wipe the whole disk, not only the selected partition

Binary package hint: usb-creator

in usbcreator (i guess the gtk version) i sleceted one partition, but got _all_ my disk formatted.

Trashing data is a very bad bug !

Thank you for this report. I think the issue is that in some respects the ui of usb-creator was not always all that clear, which I believe is a usability issue, not a bug. The entire usb device is cleared by default I think in part because you may be adding a persistent partition after the image. I note this report is in respect to usb creator in 9.10. In 10.04, this has been clarified, as the primary option is now clearly labeled "erase disk".

I just experienced this with Natty trying to create an Oneiric installer on a USB stick. To my technical eye "erase disk" means "erase this partition", i.e. the partition that it's presented to me, in my case /dev/sdd1. I did not expect it to erase /dev/sdd!
