Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

Opening usb-creator, then plugging in a fat32 disk, brings up the error dialog

"Unable to mount X.XGB Filesystem. A job is pending on /dev/sdX1" (picture and log attached)

Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a FAT32 partition on a USB key using gparted (for example)
2) Eject and remove the disk
3) Open usb-creator
4) Insert the disk

Result: Error: Unable to mount <size> Filesystem. A job is pending on <partition path>"

Expected: usb-creator needs to have tighter integration into the desktop for mounting/unmounting devices. Expecting tight integration with the desktop. No errors when mounting/unmounting.

Confirming, I was able to reproduce the issue by plugging in a brand new Sandisk Cruzer 8G.

Also, I'm marking this one as Medium since it *will* affect a substancial number of users, because most USB keys for sale at this point are already formatted in FAT32 and will trigger this bug.

Changed in usb-creator (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium

Aawergh. 'Em St0pid 'Buntu bugs! :/
I use Disk Utility with SD card mounted in card reader.
I try 'Edit' and put a label on the card, press Apply.
Now, I can't mount the card anymore.

"A job is pending on /dev/sd...."

It's not even mounted though. Only way to regain mount-ability over my SD card reader is to reboot the system. Aawergh. Running Ubuntu 10.10 :/ Please make next LTS about bugfixing.
