Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

ubuntu 9.10 x86_64
usb-creator 0.2.12

I was following the UNR instructions for making a bootable USB drive.

I put the USB stick that I wanted to use into my computer. It was formatted and automounted on insertion.

usb-creator puts a warning triangle by the /dev/sd device and tells me that it must be formatted before usage. When I hit the format button, nothing at all happens.

Trouble shooting shows that if I manually unmount the drive first then the format works and I can proceed.

The button should be fixed to give an indication for why the format step failed. Alternatively it could prompt for an unmount first as it is obnoxious to automatically mount the drive and then make the user figure out what things they must do before this button works.

Same 64-bit 9.10 and 0.2.12 usb-creator

I have ~the same here except that it doesn't require the mounting -> the format button always fails and I can't get to the usb image creation process..

I think you have misunderstood a little. The drive is automatically mounted when you insert it. The workaround is to manually unmount it before hitting the format button.
