This should be fixed in 0.1.11. Can you please grab that version of usb-creator from my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~evand/+archive) and try again? Please let me know whether this fixes the problem for you, or if it's still broken, via a comment on this bug.

This is definitely fixed. usb-creator now uses separate threads, rather than a subprocess, to manage the install routine.
