creation of startup disk makes usb unwritable and unformattable

Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

usb-creator-gtk:
  Installed: 0.3.2

Steps to reproduce:
1) Insert USB
2) Launch Startup Disk Creator
3) Create bootable USB with 16.04 LTS 64-bit image

What happens:
- USB is now bootable (sometimes) with Ubuntu, but:
- USB has no write capability
- USB cannot be formatted

What should happen:
-USB should be able to be used for storage as well as boot
-USB should be formattable and re-writable

I think that was the previous behavior in older releases.
Seems like a regression, why is it this way now instead of how it was before?
I only have one pendrive at all times with me and I always had Ubuntu in it and my files, now do I have to carry two pendrives?

Moreoever I am unable to re-use these drives as anything else. They are unformatable by any conential means that I can find.

You can use Unetbootin instead of usb-creator in Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial), it's available in ppa:baltix-members/ppa and https://launchpad.net/~gezakovacs/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
