Bug Description

If you do not specify any switches to reboot or halt to shutdown, the default is to switch to single user mode. The man page does not indicate this is the case, so it should be clarified.

-H means to halt; use -P or -h if you want to power off.

What do you mean it reboots into rescue mode? If the system reboots, you get the grub menu where you have to choose rescue mode.

The sys logs "journal" right? Why don't I just do "each" and upload the journals of the sys logs?

On -H... I never did that before this. "sudo shutdown 1" always brought it down cleanly to a powerdown in 10.10 without any other flag. Maybe in that version, it was assumed? (and this just a change) Will try -p and see how that goes.

Okay-- It must not be assumed any longer. marked this solved. (a non-problem)

I get this behavior on Maverick as well. It seems that if you don't specify any switches for reboot or halt, the default behavior is to switch to single user/rescue mode. The man page should be modified so this is clear.
