Bug Description

Occasionally I get a small window with some unspecified text along the lines of "A system error occured" together with two buttons, "Ignore" and "Report". Neither of these buttons does something noticeable, much less there is some indication on what the problem might be. So I investigated myself and found this in /var/log/syslog:

Nov 4 17:26:17 (machine name) systemd[1]: upower.service: Main process exited, code=dumped, status=6/ABRT
Nov 4 17:26:17 (machine name) systemd[1]: upower.service: Unit entered failed state.
Nov 4 17:26:17 (machine name) systemd[1]: upower.service: Failed with result 'core-dump'.
Nov 4 17:26:17 (machine name) systemd[1]: upower.service: Service hold-off time over, scheduling restart.

This is a pure desktop, so I guess a battery loading service has no business here. It's running Ubuntu 15.10 AMD64, installed in about 2010 and updated for each release since then. Except for this occasional error report (1 or 2 daily), the machine apparently works fine.

$ uname -a
Linux piccard 4.2.0-17-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 23 19:56:16 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 15.10
Release: 15.10

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1513149/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

The bug was intentionally not filed against a specific package. It's apparently a bug in the way the packages work together.

Hi Traumflug, thanks for your bug report, please use ubuntu-bug from a console to commit bug reports, in your case this would read: $: ubuntu-bug upower
So your system automatically collects important information and submits the report. I have filed a bug report for a similar problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upower/+bug/1515512

Attached is a screenshot of the dialog which made me reporting this bug. It happens on about every reboot, sometimes an hour later. There is no hint on which package or problem brings up this dialog.

Changed in ubuntu:

I just changed the bug title to a more appropriate one. Sorry for being so confusing. 'Report a bug' on Launchpad refuses to accept bugs at all and 'ubuntu-bug' on the command line refuses to accept bugs without a package name. The description given on the help page is plain wrong:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Filing_a_general_bug_against_no_particular_package

Off topic: I find filing bugs against packages pointless. If I'd knew the package, I'd report a bug upstream.

This resulted in another bug:
