Bug Description

i tried to install a package using dpkg -i pkg.deb, but due to unresolved dependencies it was not installed. minutes later the update-notifier tray icon showed up. as usual i clicked on it to see which updates were available and to install them. update-notifier screen opened up for a second and them crashed. i solved the problem running apt-get -f install from the command line, which made the update-notifier tray icon go away. besides the broken package there were 2 packages to be updated.

I tried to reproduce it by installing a package (vncserver) which was unpacked but not configured, then I chose all the four actions available from update-notifier but nothing happened, except for legitimate error messages about broken packages.

Thanks for your bugreport.

This problem is fixed nowdays. The update-manager will show a error about broken packages and not crash anyone. I'll close the bug. Pleae reopen if you still can reproduce this problem on dapper.

Thanks,
 Michael
