Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Hi,

since jaunty the update manager does not notify about updates in the notification area anymore, but instead starts directly. First I believed this was a regular bug, but then I read in a blog that this was changed intentionally.

However, it is highly annoying - really annoying - if the update manager windows appears without having asked for. Especially when giving talks or demonstration this is disturbing. A desktop should never start such windows without the user explicitely having asked to get that application.

It is furthermore a security problem, because users tend to turn automatic updates off in order to get rid of that behaviour.

Please reenable the old behavior with a small icon in the notification area. This was much better.

regards
