Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-notifier
I used to run 'sudo apt-get update' and then wait for the update-notifier to show an icon and a notify whenever a new update was availabe.
Now nothing happens, I have to manually check with 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade'. Are you sure this is the correct/intended behaviour?

Thanks for your bugreport.
It is now the intended default as specified by the design team. There is a bugreport open about it already, I will duplicate this one to it. The old behaviour can be restored with the gconf key /app/upate- notiifer/ auto_launch
