[Breezy] update-notifier window not closable

Bug Description

After updating and installing updates via synaptic, sometimes the
notification-daemon will display in the notification area of my Gnome panel.

Clicking on it used to cause it to display some system notification such as I
needed to reboot for some new or updated service, replaced kernel, etc.

Now all it does when I click on it is the window display fully, but it's empty.
If I click on the close button, nothing happens. If I click on the X in the
upper right-hand corner of the window, it closes and I usually get a crash
dialog after that.

Stopping and restarting the daemon does no good.

This was a fresh Breezy install (not an update from Hoary) and the
notification-daemon was working perfectly well until a few days ago.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Can you please test the updated version at:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~mvo/update-notifier/

That should (hopefully) fix the problem.

Cheers,
 Michael

Michael,

That seems to do the trick.

Next time I logged on, the notifier icon was in the notification area. I clicked
on it and it had a message telling me to reboot because a new kernel had been
installed.

If I have any new problems, I'll let you know through here.

I'll let you close this bug as you deem fit.

David

Thanks everyone for reporting and testing the fix. I uploaded a new
update-notifier 0.40.13 into breezy and this bug should be fixed now. Please
reopen if you still see a problem
