Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Since upgrading from 7.10 to Hardy Heron

Automatic updates are not running, even though under 'System > Software Sources > Updates' 'Automatic updates' is set to check daily. I have been running update-manager every few days manually and it always picks up new packages, so I not really sure if this is a problem with the update-manager or perhaps cron job that controls it ?

Description: Ubuntu 8.04

I have the same problem. I let Hardy Heron update a couple months ago. And now no automatic updates. Checked the setting,, and says to do so daily, but I have to manually check for them.

Let me know if you want to see some log. You may have to point me directly to it, but I will be happy to find it and post it.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please give me the output of (in a termianl window):
$ ls -l /var/lib/apt/periodic/

How is your system connected to the internet? Do you have a permanent connection?

Thanks,
 michael

So will it update the update manager. ;-) I just ran it manually, and there were 26 packages to update, but update manger was not one of them.

Oh yeah, I forgot ... I have a cable modem and am always connected.

I have been doing the manual updates yet for a while. A couple days ago, I rebooted for no real good reason. Now this morning, the automatic update worked. I got a message to install updates.

Somewhere, it must have updated update manager, but needed a reboot to get it to work.
