Was able to fix sf mirrors issue by replacing sf mirror with some github copy:
sudo sed -i 's#http://
Then run:
sudo /usr/lib/
All downloaded and good.

This solves the mirrors problems with Sourceforge. There remains a problem that an authentication dialog disappears even before you get a chance to answer.
